Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? If you are like me, then you are STRESSED. Of course, the week before Thanksgiving is always going to be a crazy rush. Here are a few things you can do NOW to get ready for Thanksgiving.
1. Make Your Plan
Be the Turkey Day General. What’s your plan of attack? Who is coming? What are they bringing What are you making? What’s left for you to do? Think about these moving pieces and then write it out in a timeline. It doesn’t matter if it was scribbled on the back of a Reader’s Digest or resembles a nuclear bomb blueprint. What’s important is to identify what can be done in advance to get ready for Thanksgiving.
2. Grab Your Recipes and Go Shopping
Now that you know what you are baking, make a list of allllll the ingredients you need. Start shopping for the pantry or frozen stuff this week – most of the staples are already on sale! Do you have enough flour and sugar? What about spices? Check your booze. Do you have enough wine? Do you have enough of that licorice microbrew your hipster relatives want?
What non-food items will you need? Let’s be real. Do you have enough toilet paper for the family horde that is about to descend?
Last, don’t forget to order your turkey!
3. Cook and Freeze
Identify what you can make now that won’t suffer from a few weeks in the freezer. Gravy stock, soups, pie crusts… all of that goes in the freezer now.
Now sit back and relax for a week or two. All the work is done until the week of Turkey Day.
Thanksgiving is work, but it’s also fun – especially if you can remove all the unwanted stress of preparation.
