Here’s my introduction to North End homes for sale in Virginia Beach. For an updated list of current North End homes for sale, please scroll to the bottom.
The North End is a long, narrow strip of beach running from the famous Cavalier Hotel north to the historic Cape Henry Lighthouse. Its eastern boundary is the Atlantic Ocean; its western boundary is partly formed by First Landing State Park. You can reach the North End of Virginia Beach via Shore Drive (from the west) or you can approach from the south via Atlantic Avenue or Pacific Avenue.
The North End Community
Vacationers have flocked to the North End of Virginia Beach ever since the late 19th century, when a small rail line connected it to Norfolk. The North End was a sleepy beach cottage community for most of its history; you can see this reflected in the charm of the early 20th century homes that still dot the North End’s landscape. These cottages are now mingled with luxury condos, two to four unit duplexes, and assorted single family homes.
The North End beaches are prized for their privacy. You can enjoy expansive, unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean from many of the oceanfront homes. On the landside, residents have views of Crystal Lake, Little Neck Creek, and First Landing State Park. Zoning laws prohibit too much urban encroachment.
North End homes for sale are in a friendly, close-knit community where people wave to each other as they walk by. There are extensive bike trails and walking paths. There is an active North End Civic League that coordinates community events and neighborhood news.
At the North End of Virginia Beach, you can enjoy the best that the Oceanfront has to offer: free concerts, fireworks, surfing, fishing, indoor skydiving, mini golf, and more. Spend an elegant evening at the Princess Anne Country Club.
The Virginia Beach Oceanfront hosts many local festivals, including the Boardwalk Art Show, the Neptune Festival, the American Music Festival, numerous wine and beer festivals, the Patriotic Festival, and others.
There’s also lots nearby to keep you busy at the North End. You can catch a show at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, or see the komodo dragons at the Virginia Aquarium and the Marine Science Center. Local restaurants include Terrapin (specializing in locally grown and sourced food), and Isle of Capri (with ocean view dining).
There is lots of boutique shopping, especially around Laskin Road. A little further afield, Hilltop Shopping Center has excellent options for clothing, entertainment, or organic groceries.
The North End is in the Linkhorn Park Elementary School, Virginia Beach Middle School, and Cox High School Districts.
There are many waterfront homes in the North End facing the Atlantic Ocean. Along the landside of the North End, some homes have access to the water through Little Neck Creek and Crystal Lake.
