Birdneck Point is one of Virginia Beach’s most sought-after neighborhoods. Nestled along Laskin Road on its own small deep-water peninsula, surrounded by the waters of Little Neck Creek and Linkhorn Bay, it is one of the most distinctive communities in Virginia Beach.
The Birdneck Point Community
Birdneck Point is said to have been named after the shape of the neighborhood, which juts out into Linkhorn Bay like the long neck of a bird. It was originally settled as farmland in the 18th century.
In the 1920s, the famed Cavalier Hotel at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront bought a private golf course on Birdneck Point. The golf course was purchased for the exclusive use of Cavalier Hotel members and was renamed the “Cavalier Country Club.” Over the years the remaining farmland on the little peninsula was slowly sold off and developed. But unlike other neighborhoods with cookie-cutter floorplans and repetitive designs, the homes here are mostly unique. You’ll find a French chateau next to a Mediterranean inspired villa. Deep water access criss-crosses the neighborhood, and ancient trees shelter the homes below.
In the 1950s, the amenities at the country club were greatly expanded and facilities were added to accommodate large yachts. The club was renamed the “Cavalier Yacht and Country Club.”
There are many waterfront homes in Birdneck Point, and most of these provide deep water access to Linkhorn Bay, the Chesapeake Bay, and eventually, the Atlantic Ocean.
