Here’s my neighborhood guide to Baylake Beach homes for sale in Virginia Beach. For a current list of all Baylake Beach homes for sale, please scroll to the bottom.
Baylake Beach is one of the many smaller neighborhoods that make up the Chick’s Beach area of Virginia Beach. Chick’s Beach is a two-mile stretch of land running from the Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach to Pleasure House Road (just west of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel).
Baylake Beach is north of Shore Drive and just east of Northampton Boulevard, and surrounds the small freshwater Lake Joyce. The streets have a pirate theme (no really!), and include Blackbeard Rd, John Silver Rd, and Bounty Road. This area is prized for its beach location, access to parks and recreation, and is popular with military families and NATO families alike. It is close to JEB Little Creek, Norfolk Airport, golf and more.
Baylake Beach was originally dotted with small Native American villages. Arrowheads and other artifacts are still found today. It later became the site of several colonial homesteads. It then became a lookout post at the strategic mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, before finally being settled as a little seaside village. Now it is one of the favorite local hotspots in Virginia Beach – a beachside haven that tourists usually ignore.
Area residents are often spotted riding bikes or wandering down to the beach in their flip-flops. With four lakes nearby and the Chesapeake Bay looming to the north, favorite area activities include fishing, boating, kayaking, sailing, or surfing. Chick’s Beach is also filled with hidden restaurants for locals: HK on the Bay, Alexander’s on the Bay, Froggie’s and lots more.
Baylake Beach homes for sale are peacefully tucked away from the rest of Virginia Beach, but offer big city conveniences. The beach is never more than ten minutes away. Hungry, but don’t want to get in your car? Hop in your boat instead and tie up at the dock at restaurants like Chick’s, Dockside, or Bubba’s. Go for a round of golf at the Eagle Haven Golf Course.
Shore Drive has some of the best night life in Virginia Beach, as well as quick access to bike paths, hiking trails, or camping at First Landing State Park or the park at Bayville Farms. The Bayside Recreation Center is nearby with a fantastic gym for less than $100 per year.
Interstate 64 is ten minutes away off of Northampton Blvd, or you can access I-264 via Independence Blvd. JEB Little Creek is five minutes away, Fort Story is 15 minutes away, and NAS Oceana, Norfolk NOB, and Dam Neck Annex are all within a half hour drive.
There are lots of shopping opportunities along Shore Drive, or in the Independence Blvd-Haygood corridor. Still not satisfied? You’re within twenty minutes of Hilltop Shopping Center, or the Pembroke, Lynnhaven, and MacArthur Malls.
