The Alanton Community
Alanton has been in the making for almost 400 years. Before it was a neighborhood, it was a family farm issued by royal grant from King Charles I in 1637. The McCullough family bought one of the original farmhouses in the 1920s, and by the 1960s they were developing the rest of the farmland. It is called “Alanton” after one of Mr. McCullough’s sons.
Development began in the 1960s but continued for many years, and you can see this reflected in the wide variety of architecture. Majestic trees line the streets, and many of the Alanton homes for sale sit on large lots of more than an acre.
There are many waterfront homes here, and most of these provide lovely scenic views of First Landing State Park. There is navigable deep water access, via Wolfsnare Creek and Linkhorn Bay, to the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.
The Alanton and nearby Baycliff communities cooperate on a number of joint ventures, including the Alanton-Baycliff Recreation Center. This is a small nonprofit athletic club with a pool. Though originally limited to the surrounding community, the ABRC is now open to everyone who pays the yearly dues. Aside from the swimming pool, the ABRC hosts community parties and sponsors family movie nights. There is also an Alanton-Baycliff Garden Club that works to maintain the beauty of Alanton’s public spaces.
