Church Point Homes For Sale

There’s a wide variety of homes currently available, in a variety of price ranges.  Here’s a sample below:

The Church Point Community

Church Point is so named because it was the original site of Old Donation Church, built in the time of Adam Thoroughgood (abt 1630).  Thoroughgood donated approximately 200 acres, and the land surrounding the church was deeded in perpetuity to its pastor so he could grow his own food.

The 200+ acres surrounding the church were acquired by a Norfolk businessman named Charles F. Burroughs Sr in 1933.  He owned the Church Point land and neighboring Bayville Farm, which he turned into a dairy (to obtain his own milk and cheese, because he thought his children would catch tuberculosis from unsafe “city milk”).

After Mr. Burroughs death, Church Point stayed in family hands until 1992, when it was sold for residential development.  In homage to the memory of the original church and Adam Thoroughgood, “The streets were named from different parish churches in the Tidewater area and from crewmembers of the Adam Thoroughgood Grant.”

Nowadays, Church Point is home to 383 unique residences.  An active civic league coordinates certain services, like Neighborhood Watch, lawn service to specific common areas, a newsletter, a babysitting referral network, and lots more.

Neighboring Communities

Baylake Beach and Baylake Pines, Chick's Beach, Ocean Park, Sajo Farm, Thoroughgood

Church Point is peacefully tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city, but offers big conveniences.  Chicks Beach is less than ten minutes away.  Hungry, but don’t want to get in your car?  Hop in your boat instead and tie up at the dock at restaurants like Chick’s, Dockside, or Bubba’s.  Go for a round of golf at the Bayville Golf Club

Shore Drive has some of the best night life in Virginia Beach, as well as quick access to bike paths, hiking trails, or camping at First Landing State Park.  The Bayside Rec Center or Great Neck Recreation Center is nearby with a fantastic gym for less than $100 per year.

Shore Drive and Independence Blvd are filled with shopping and entertainment.  The Hilltop, Lynnhaven, and Pembroke shopping centers aren’t too far away either.

John B. Dey Elementary, Great Neck Middle School, and Cox High School. Nearby local private schools include Cape Henry Collegiate.
