Here is my guide to the Baycliff community in Virginia Beach.
Baycliff is one of Virginia Beach’s hidden jewels. Nestled deep in Great Neck, along the southern shores of Broad Bay and east of Great Neck Road, it is one of the area’s most distinctive neighborhoods. It neighbors Alanton, Woodhurst, Mill Dam, and Broad Bay Point Greens.
The Baycliff Community
Baycliff was first developed in the 1960s and 70s, nearly in tandem with its sister community of Alanton. Baycliff includes about 278 custom homes, and many of these are waterfront. There is navigable deep water access, via Wolfsnare Creek and Linkhorn Bay, to the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.
There is a small civic league that meets four or five times a year. They work on issues like neighborhood safety and social activities. Their website proudly states “The Civic League has a strong and clear voice, resulting in recently paved streets, new sewer and natural gas lines, and digital cable access. The civic league also recently renovated the community boat ramp and has increased traffic safety through participation in the city traffic calming program.” Dues to the Civic League are $50 per year (what a bargain!), with an extra $35 per year for boat ramp access.
The Baycliff and Alanton communities cooperate on a number of joint ventures, including the Alanton-Baycliff Recreation Center. This is a small nonprofit athletic club with a pool. Though originally limited to the surrounding community, the ABRC is now open to everyone who pays the yearly dues. Aside from the swimming pool, the ABRC hosts community parties and sponsors family movie nights. There is also an Alanton-Baycliff Garden Club that works to maintain the beauty of Alanton’s public spaces.
Current Homes for Sale
Curious about Baycliff homes for sale? Take a peek:
There is fast access to I-264, but Baycliff is also close to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and the beaches along Shore Drive. It is an easy commute to NAS Oceana, Fort Story and Little Creek.
There are many shopping opportunities nearby along Great Neck Road, but Baycliff is also convenient to Hilltop, the boutiques of the Virginia Beach resort strip, and the malls at Lynnhaven and Pembroke.
It is in the First Colonial High School District. Alanton Elementary is within the neighborhood, Cape Henry Collegiate (a local private school) is nearby, and it is also served by Lynnhaven Middle School and Great Neck Middle School.
