It’s almost Independence Day in Hampton Roads!  Here’s my list of fun stuff to do this holiday weekend.

Mount Trashmore – Monday, July 4th – 4pm-1-pm

Independence Day in Hampton Roads

    Happy Independence Day, Everybody!

Come celebrate at Mount Trashmore with live music, lots of food, and a fireworks display at 9pm.  Event is free, but parking costs $5 if you park on site.   For more information, call 757-385-2990.

Virginia Beach Oceanfront – Monday, July 4th

Why not celebrate Independence Day at the beach?  Watch the fireworks from the sand.  The city is providing live music, including a MoTown Tribute Show, Symphonicity, and a Billy Joel tribute.  The celebration ends with a fireworks display at 9:30pm.  Event is free, but plan on paying for parking nearby.  For more information, call 757-491-7866.


Chesapeake City Park – Sunday, July 3rd – 5pm-10pm

The US Army TRADOC Command band will accompany Chesapeake’s special Celebrate Freedom Concert.  This family-friendly event will include face painting, lawn games, and inflatable bouncy fun.  There will be live music and food trucks.  The Chesapeake Fine Arts Commission is hosting a raffle and silent auction.  Event is free, but parking costs $5 if you park on site.   For more information, call 757-382-5411.


Fort Monroe – Monday, July 4th – 7:30pm-10:00pm

Fort Monroe is sponsoring a special Fourth at the Fort!  Relax on Outlook Beach, check out the Casemate Museum (offering a special FREE admission), or listen to the music offered by the US Fleet Forces Four Star Edition Ensemble band.  Food will be available.  Fireworks begin at 9:15.  Event is free.   For more information, call 757-637-7778.

Newport News

Victory Landing Park – Monday, July 4th – 5pm-???

Victory Landing Park is hosting a free concert and fireworks display.  Rides and crafts for kids will be offered, as well as food and drinks for sale.  The Fourth of July Stars in the Sky event is free.   For more information, call 757-962-1400.


Independence Day in Hampton Roads

     Fireworks at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach

Town Point Park – Monday, July 4th – 4pm-10pm

This year marks the 33rd Annual 4th of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks at Town Point Park!  Norfolk’s FestEvents service has put together a traditional American feast (think lots of grilling) with live entertainment provided by the US Army TRADOC Band.  Listen to live music, wander around with good food, or sit on the lawn and watch the fireworks.  Event is free, but you might have to pay for parking.  Fireworks begin at 9:30pm.


Portside Park – Monday, July 4th, 6:30pm-9:30pm

The Tidewater Concert Band is playing a special free concert, followed by Independence Day Fireworks on the water.  Event is free, but you might have to pay for parking.  Fireworks begin at 9pm.  For more information, call 757-393-5111.


Colonial Williamsburg – Monday, July 4th, 10am-10:pm

Colonial Williamsburg is going all out with an all day celebration.  Colonial-themed events will occur throughout the day, including a reading of the Declaration of Independence and performances by the Fifes & Drums band.  A salute to the states will start the day, and fireworks will go off at 9:20pm.  There is a buffet dinner available at the Williamsburg Lodge.  The cost of the Food, Fanfare and Fireworks event is $85/adult, $55 for children ages 6-12.  Free parking will be available.  Tickets are on sale now online.  For more information, call 888-965-7254.


Riverwalk Landing – Monday, July 4th, 9am-11am; 7pm-9:45pm

The Yorktown Waterfront is hosting two events: a midday patriotic parade along Water Street, and then live music and a fireworks display at 7pm.  The Yorktown Independence Day Celebration is free to the public, but you may have to pay for parking.  For more information, call 757-890-3500, or visit
